Woman Escapes the Restaurant After Fiancé Demands She Pay the Bill

A woman recently shared her story on Reddit, revealing a troubling situation with her fiancé. According to her post, her fiancé expected her to pay the restaurant bill for him and his friends, citing her higher income as the reason.

She explained that she had recently received a 30% raise at work, which led to her fiancé frequently suggesting that she cover more expenses. “I’m 33 and engaged to my fiancé, who’s 37. We don’t share finances because that’s what he prefers. Since I got a 30% raise, I’ve noticed he’s been asking me to pay for him and his friends more often. When I question why, he just says, ‘Because of the 30%.’ It feels like he thinks it’s unfair or that I don’t deserve it.”

The woman shared that her fiancé had tricked her into paying for meals multiple times by asking her in public, where she felt too polite to refuse. She had finally had enough and made it clear before their most recent dinner outing that she wouldn’t be footing the bill. “Last Tuesday, he invited me to dinner with his buddies. I told him upfront that I wasn’t paying this time, and he assured me he ‘got this.’”

However, during the meal, her fiancé whispered to her that she would, in fact, be paying for everything. When she refused, he tried to pressure her, saying, “You have enough money to cover everyone’s food. Remember the 30%?”

Angry and frustrated, she decided to quietly pay her own bill and leave. “I was furious, but I didn’t want to lose my temper. When the bills came, they were already split from the start. I paid for mine, excused myself to the restroom, and then left the restaurant. I got into my car and went home.”

Her fiancé quickly began calling and texting her, asking where she had gone. She explained her frustration with being tricked into paying for his friends again, and then she stopped responding. “An hour later, he came home, yelling at me, calling me selfish, irrational, a cheapskate, and childish for leaving him with a bill he couldn’t pay. He had to call his brother for help. We had a loud argument, and then he walked out. He told me his friends are disappointed in my behavior and that they’re advising him to ‘reflect’ on the type of woman he’s planning to marry.”
