Our fingernails grow quick, which is why they need to be trimmed constantly. However, some of our nails can still grow sideways even when trimmed correctly, which can be difficult to deal with. Whenever this happens, the skin around the ingrown fingernail is inflamed and red as well as more sensitive than before. This usually happens to toenails, and causes a condition known as ingrown toenail.
This condition is not naïve – it can be quite painful, and removing the nail yourself is out of the question. If you make a mistake and cut into the tissue, you are increasing the risk of infections, which is why people often seek medical help. Instead of fighting the infection, however, you should try and resolve the root of the problem. Luckily, it doesn’t involve surgery or other invasive techniques – just pay attention to the following steps and you can treat your ingrown toenails easily at home.
We’re going to show you how to prepare a natural antiseptic cream that can reduce the inflammation and keep the area clean. Here’s what you need to do:
Ingredients
- 1 drop of oregano essential oil
- 2 drops of mint essential oil
- 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
- 5 drops of tea tree oil
- 5 drops of lavender essential oil
- 60 ml. of coconut oil
- 60 ml. of Aloe Vera gel
Preparation
Melt the coconut oil in the microwave, then mix it with the Aloe gel and add the essential oils to the mixture. Transfer it to a glass jar afterwards, and keep it in a cool and dark place. To use it, massage your ingrown toenails with the remedy every night before going to bed for a few minutes. Once you’re done, try to pull the affected part of skin and massage for a bit more. Make sure the mixture enters the injured area so it can reduce the scarring and fight the infection. Repeat the process every night – once the pain stops and the meat separates easily, cut out the excess nail.
The essential oils used in the mixture have powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can fight infections and the condition. They will accelerate the healing of the wound and help you overcome the problem.
A nice Epsom salt soak can also help. Just pour warm water in a bowl and add some Epsom salt and an antibacterial soap, then soak your feet in to soften the inflamed skin and eliminate the problem easily. Once the pain goes away, make sure to cut the excess nail.
When cutting the nail, do it in a V-cut in order to make sure it grows normally again and prevent the condition from recurring. This simple method will help you eliminate the problem without the need for surgery and most importantly, without pain. Try it yourself and you’ll be amazed by the results!
