Heartbreaking News for Tom Selleck Fans

Tom Selleck is disappointed that his show *Blue Bloods* has been canceled. Since its 2010 debut, Selleck has portrayed Commissioner Frank Reagan in this popular crime drama. After a successful 14-year run, the network announced last year that the show would end this fall. In a recent interview with *TV Insider*, Selleck opened up about his frustration with CBS’s decision to conclude the series.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck admitted. “During those last eight episodes, I didn’t want to talk about the show ending. I wanted to talk about it still being wildly successful.”

He continued, “In the Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024, we ranked number 9 in total viewers. If you discount the football shows, we’re number 6! I’m not going to become a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’ But, if you asked any network executive, ‘Would you want a show that consistently wins Friday nights for 15 years?’ I think we’d all know the answer.”

Selleck also shared how the show’s consistent success over the years may have led to it being taken for granted.

“My frustration is that it was always assumed *Blue Bloods* would perform well, right from the start. So, how do I feel? It’s going to take a while to process. After the weekend of the final shoot, I told myself, ‘I need to go to bed early for Monday’s dialogue.’ But then I remembered—there was no Monday.”

Filming his last scene, which fittingly took place around the Reagan family dinner table, made him reflect on how much he would miss the show and his castmates. “My last scene was ironically a family dinner—the first scene I ever shot on the show. The family dinner kind of brings the Reagan family together one last time,” he said.

When asked what he would miss most, Selleck replied, “The cast. The actors really became like family. Not a single one of them wanted to leave. Most shows don’t end with such unity. There’s usually some jealousy, but we managed to avoid that. It’s something we can all be proud of.”

*Blue Bloods* followed the Reagan family, a multi-generational clan of law enforcement officers in New York City, and delved into their professional and personal challenges. At the series’ core was Frank Reagan, the Police Commissioner, with his children and father all playing important roles in the NYPD. The show’s unique focus on the Reagan family dinners, where they discussed cases and ethical dilemmas, resonated with audiences and set it apart from other police dramas.

While the end of *Blue Bloods* marks the end of an era, Selleck’s portrayal of Frank Reagan and the show’s legacy will continue to be cherished by fans for years to come.
