Drone Activity Near Trump’s Bedminster Estate and Army Arsenal Prompts NJ Flight Restriction
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Tuesday that it implemented two temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) after reports of suspicious drone activity near former President Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The FAA first received reports of drone sightings in Morris County on November 18. This area borders Somerset County, located approximately two miles north of Trump National Golf Club Bedminster.
At the request of federal security agencies, the FAA issued two TFRs. One restriction applies to the airspace above Trump Bedminster near Solberg-Hunterdon County Airport. The second restricts flights over Picatinny Arsenal, a major U.S. Army research and development center in Dover, New Jersey.
The flight restriction for Trump Bedminster will remain in effect through the end of the week, while the Picatinny Arsenal restriction is set to expire on December 26.
“Safely integrating drones into the National Airspace System is a key priority for the FAA. We investigate all reports of unauthorized drone operations and take enforcement action when appropriate,” the agency said in a statement. It added that drone operators who endanger people or aircraft risk losing their certifications and could face fines of up to $75,000.
Local law enforcement has also been investigating continued drone activity in the region. Sightings have been reported in Central Jersey and areas north of Bedminster, including Mendham and Parsippany. A Parsippany resident told the Morristown Record she saw as many as five drones overhead on Sunday night.
An FBI spokesperson confirmed that the agency’s Newark field office is working with New Jersey State Police to investigate the incidents. Law enforcement has urged residents to report any drone sightings and to provide clear photos if possible.
“There is no immediate danger to the public at this time,” Morris County Sheriff James Gannon said, adding that investigations are ongoing. “Anyone with information about the drones is encouraged to contact authorities.”
In a joint statement, officials from Morris and Somerset counties pledged to monitor the situation and address public concerns.
Drone activity has also been reported over key military sites in the United Kingdom, including RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, and RAF Fairford, which host U.S. fighter jets like the F-15 and F-35. A Pentagon spokesperson stated that these incursions did not cause damage or compromise security.
Separately, in September, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong briefly stopped a concert after a drone was spotted flying overhead. Detroit Police later arrested an individual in connection with the incident.
Authorities have reassured the public that, as of now, there is no credible threat to safety in the U.S. or U.K.
