Dolly Parton’s Sister Shares Update After Husband Carl Dean’s Passing
|Stella Parton, sister of country music icon Dolly Parton, has shared an update following the passing of Dolly’s husband, Carl Dean. Dean passed away on March 3, 2025, at the age of 82 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Taking to social media, Stella expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, writing:
“On behalf of my sister Dolly, our family, and Carl’s family, we appreciate your prayers at this time.”
Dolly and Carl’s love story spanned nearly six decades. The couple married in 1966 and shared a famously private life, with Dean choosing to stay out of the spotlight while Dolly built her legendary music career. Despite their long-lasting bond, they never had children, a decision Dolly has previously reflected on with gratitude.
“God has a plan for everything,” she shared in a 2017 interview. “I think it was His plan for me not to have kids so that everybody’s kids could be mine.”
Dolly confirmed her husband’s passing in a heartfelt statement:
“Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away on March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending. Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy. The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.”
Though Carl never attended red carpets or showbiz events, he played a quiet but steadfast role in Dolly’s life. He ran a paving company in Tennessee and preferred the simple joys of farm life.
In a past interview, Dolly spoke fondly of her husband:
“I love the fact that he loves me, sees me, tolerates me—because of and in spite of myself. It’s all about the sweet little things he does, like picking flowers for me or making my coffee in the morning. We’re very different but very compatible. And it just works.”
Carl Dean is survived by his siblings, Sandra and Donnie, and will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.
