Donald and Melania Trump Set for White House Return in January: What to Expect in Their Second Term
As of January next year, Donald Trump and Melania Trump will once again call the White House home. After winning the election last week, former President Donald Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump will be returning to Washington, taking over from current President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Known for their complex history, the Trumps and Bidens are likely to have a tense transition, especially regarding relations between Melania and Jill.
Donald Trump’s Feud with Joe Biden
Donald Trump has openly criticized Joe Biden on numerous occasions, underscoring a longstanding rivalry. The former president was especially outraged when the FBI conducted a high-profile search of his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022, a raid that included Melania Trump’s private quarters. Melania publicly condemned the incident as an “invasion of privacy,” which has likely fueled ongoing friction between the Trumps and Bidens.
With Trump preparing to re-enter the White House, it’s customary for the outgoing and incoming presidential couples to meet. However, sources now suggest that Melania Trump may reject First Lady Jill Biden’s invitation, making their transition even more contentious.
Melania Trump’s Absence from the Campaign Trail
While Donald Trump’s campaign kept him in the public eye, Melania Trump largely stayed out of the spotlight, reportedly focusing on her son Barron’s education and spending time between New York and the Trumps’ Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. She appeared at select private events, including a September fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago, where she was reportedly paid over $230,000. Although she did join her husband at campaign events closer to the election, her role was far more reserved than during their first term.
In late October, Melania joined Donald Trump at a rally in Madison Square Garden, where she spoke about New York City and its challenges, endorsing her husband as the leader to restore the city’s former glory.
Melania’s Election Day Presence – and Body Double Conspiracy
On Election Day, Melania joined Donald Trump at the Mandel Recreation Center in Palm Beach, Florida. However, her choice to wear sunglasses throughout the day stirred up online conspiracy theories, with some speculating that a body double was posing as Melania.
Social media speculations included claims that physical differences suggested it wasn’t Melania. However, these claims remain unfounded, as there is no evidence that Melania Trump used a stand-in on Election Day.
Melania’s Future Role as First Lady
Body language experts noted Melania’s reserved demeanor during Election Day and speculated about her level of enthusiasm for returning to the White House. Judi James, a body language expert, remarked that her style was “subdued” compared to her previous tenure as First Lady. Another expert, Darren Stanton, described Melania’s body language as lacking closeness with Donald, which he suggested could indicate reluctance.
Breaking Tradition: Will Melania Decline a Meeting with Jill Biden?
Historically, outgoing presidents and first ladies meet their successors, but the Trumps broke that tradition in 2020 by skipping an invitation for the Bidens. This year, Donald Trump has accepted an invitation from President Biden to meet at the Oval Office, though reports indicate that Melania may decline a similar invitation from Jill Biden. According to sources, a scheduling conflict related to Melania’s recent memoir release could be a factor, though other insiders suggest that lingering tensions from the Mar-a-Lago raid may also play a role.
One insider told the New York Post, “Jill Biden’s husband authorized the FBI snooping through [Melania’s] underwear drawer. Jill Biden isn’t someone Melania needs to meet.”
Mar-a-Lago Raid and Melania’s Frustration
On August 8, 2022, the FBI conducted a search of Mar-a-Lago, seizing numerous classified documents and prompting both Donald and Melania Trump to publicly denounce the action. The search reportedly included Melania’s bedroom suite and her son Barron’s suite. Donald Trump referred to the raid as “unconstitutional” and “illegal,” though Attorney General Merrick Garland later dismissed those claims as “false.”
In a Fox interview, Melania described the raid as an “invasion of privacy,” expressing anger and surprise over how it was conducted. In a recent social media post, she urged Americans to remain vigilant about protecting their freedoms.
What Lies Ahead?
As January approaches, all eyes will be on the Trumps as they prepare to return to the White House. Whether or not Melania will officially meet with Jill Biden remains to be seen. However, the decision may provide insight into her approach to her renewed role as First Lady.
