A group of researchers have found that the consumption of black currant juice will improve the health of our brain significantly and it will help us fight and prevent many different health problems and diseases. A recent study published, in the Journal of Functional Foods,conducted by group of researchers from New Zealand Institute for Research on herbs and foods and their colleagues from the British University of North Umbria, has found that this all-natural juice actually stimulates the brain function and improve its health.
The group of researchers have followed 36 people, aged 18 to 35 years over three weeks.The participants in this study have to drink a glass of 140 ml of black currant juice, once a week, before they make a series of tests. At the end of the study, the medical experts were very surprised by the results. They’ve found that this black currant juice had major positive effects on the cognitive abilities of the participants, in just one hour after absorption, and the analysis of the blood showed high concentrations of monoamine oxidases. And you should know that these neurotransmitters (norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin) can affect the regulation of your mood.They can affect the development of certain neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease for example.
The medical experts linked this phenomenon with the influence of anthocyanins, which has the ability to inhibit certain enzymes – monoamine oxidases.Anthony Watson, one of the authors of the study, claims that all types of currant have the same effect.
