Jamie Lee Curtis chokes up as she opens up about the devastating L.A. fires.

The wildfires raging across Los Angeles have continued to bring devastation and fear, with one of the many affected being actress Jamie Lee Curtis.

While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 8, the 66-year-old actress became visibly emotional when discussing the wildfire near her home. Curtis had just boarded a flight to New York City when she received word that the flames were quickly approaching her Pacific Palisades residence.

Although her home was ultimately spared, many of her neighbors lost everything as the fire tore through the community.

“Literally, I’m about to cry,” Curtis said, overcome with emotion. She initially appeared on the show to promote her film The Last Showgirl, but as the subject of the fires came up, she struggled to hold back tears. “As you know, where I live is on fire right now. Literally, the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning.”

Describing the moment she learned of the fire’s severity, Curtis recalled: “I flew here last night. I was on the plane, started getting texts. And it’s f**king gnarly, you guys. It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California.”

Curtis expressed deep sorrow for those affected, adding, “Obviously, there have been horrific fires in many places. This is literally where I live. Everything—the market I shop in, the schools my kids go to, friends, many, many, many friends now have lost their homes.”

With a heavy heart, she made plans to return to L.A. as soon as possible: “It’s a really awful situation. I am going home tomorrow to be with my family and try to help my friends.”

Curtis used her platform to urge the audience to support the American Red Cross, emphasizing the importance of community support. “If you know anybody on the West Coast or not, the American Red Cross, support them. They will come in and help people. Do anything you can… Give blood, donate, whatever.”

As an ambassador for the American Red Cross, she also reminded viewers to be prepared for emergencies: “Have an emergency kit with prescription glasses, medicines, dog food, baby formula, all the things you need if you have to flee.”

Later, Curtis shared a heartbreaking Instagram post featuring the charred remnants of her beloved church in Pacific Palisades. “This is the church in the Palisades that had a beautiful Sunday school and school and was a gorgeous house of worship and is the building that I got sober in 25 years ago,” she wrote.

She reflected on the church’s significance, adding, “I think of all the souls who came there for comfort and solace and all the baptisms and funerals and weddings and the thousands of people who reclaimed their lives through sobriety.”

Curtis, who shares two daughters—Ruby, 25, and Annie, 34—with her husband, screenwriter Christopher Guest, reiterated her desire to be with her loved ones. “It’s a really awful situation. I am going home tomorrow to be with my family and try to help my friends.”

The fires have already claimed at least five lives, destroyed nearly 2,000 structures, and left thousands of residents with nothing. Emergency responders continue working tirelessly to contain the flames amid challenging dry, windy conditions.
