Country music legends Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton have joined forces for the first time to perform Reba’s iconic hit “Does He Love You.” Their duet has taken the internet by storm, with the music video going viral on Reba’s YouTube channel and racking up over 250,000 views in just a few days.
|In 2021, country music legends Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton finally teamed up to record a duet together—a true meeting of icons.
Surprisingly, the two country music queens had never collaborated on a song before. In 2021, these legends finally joined forces to cover “Does He Love You,” the classic duet originally performed by Reba McEntire and Linda Davis in 1993.
The song, written by Sandy Knox and Billy Stritch, tells the story of a man’s wife and mistress singing to each other, asking, “Does he love you like he loves me?” McEntire and Parton’s rendition was released as a single from Reba’s 2021 three-disc compilation album, “Revived Remixed Revisited”. The track was a hit with fans, debuting in the Top 50 of *Billboard*’s Country Airplay Chart.
During a July 2021 appearance on *Watch What Happens Live* with Andy Cohen, Dolly Parton expressed her enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying it “turned out really good.” She mentioned she’d always wanted to sing with Reba McEntire and wasn’t sure why they hadn’t done it until then. “We really sounded good together, and I think the fans are going to like it,” Parton added.
Reflecting on their collaboration, Reba McEntire said, “It’s amazing that we’ve never done a duet. We’ve never sung together. I’ve gone on programs to sing for her, and she’s done that for me. But to never sing a song together is kinda weird.”
In addition to recording the song, McEntire and Parton also filmed a music video. In the clip, they meet in a club, sitting at a table with drinks in hand as they sing to each other, eventually taking to the stage for the song’s emotional finale.
“My favorite part of shooting the video with Dolly was getting to visit with her in between shots,” The Voice Coach continued. “Second was singing with her. But to get to hang out and just visit like girlfriends was so much fun… I loved the play acting we got to do. [At first] we were women at odds, and not liking each other. But by the end we were like ‘Ah you can have him, I don’t want him.’ It was a lot of fun.”
Will the two legends reunite for another project in the near future?
“We did talk about doing more stuff together, and I hope that happens, because I loved working with her,” McEntire added. “She’s a professional, she’s fun, funny, witty. I could sit and listen to her talk all day long.”
