As Donald Trump gears up for his second term in the White House, reactions across the nation are as polarized as ever. While Trump celebrated his victory with none other than tech mogul Elon Musk, one of Musk’s family members made it clear she wants no part of it.
Vivian Wilson, Musk’s daughter, announced on Threads that she plans to leave the United States, citing political and social concerns.
“I don’t see my future being in the United States,” Vivian wrote. “Even if he’s only in office for four years, even if the anti-trans regulations magically don’t happen, the people who willingly voted this in are not going anywhere anytime soon.”
A Strained Relationship with Her Father
Vivian, born Xavier Musk, legally changed her name and gender in 2022, marking a significant break from her father’s legacy. At the time, she stated unequivocally, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”
Elon Musk, father to 12 children, has publicly struggled with his daughter’s transition. In a July interview, Musk made controversial remarks, referring to his child’s transition as something that left him feeling like his “son” was “de-ad.”
According to Musk, the decision occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period he described as rife with confusion and misinformation. Musk claimed he was pressured into supporting the transition, saying he was told his child might commit suicide if action wasn’t taken. He also blamed what he termed the “woke mind virus” for driving his child’s decision, a term he often uses to critique progressive ideologies.
The Cultural and Political Divide
Vivian’s decision to leave the U.S. underscores the ongoing cultural and political divides within the country, particularly on issues of gender identity and LGBTQ+ rights. While Musk remains a vocal Trump supporter, his daughter’s public rejection of his views and legacy highlights a deeply personal reflection of these national conflicts.
Will Vivian Leave?
The 19-year-old’s announcement aligns with a pattern of public figures threatening to leave the U.S. if Trump returns to power. Celebrities such as Cher, Barbra Streisand, and Whoopi Goldberg have made similar vows in the past, though follow-through has been rare. Whether Vivian will actually make good on her plans remains to be seen.
In the meantime, her strained relationship with her father continues to play out on a public stage, reflecting not just a personal rift but a broader societal clash.
